In Guadalajara, Mexico, I joined a team of ten from the United States on a mission trip with Wheels for the World by Joni and Friends. As a wheelchair mechanic, my role was to ensure each wheelchair we distributed was customized to fit the recipient's unique needs. Over five days, the US team worked with hundreds of locals across two churches, custom-fitting each chair with care and attention to detail to over 300 people.
The team I worked with consisted of a seating specialist, translator, and mechanic. Together, we fit 28 people to new chairs that week.
The stories we heard were humbling—testaments to resilience and courage in the face of adversity. For many, receiving a wheelchair meant more than just mobility; it was a lifeline to independence and opportunity.
Though physically and emotionally demanding, the trip reaffirmed our commitment to service and solidarity. Looking ahead, I'm excited to continue my involvement with Wheels for the World, wherever it may lead. Our journey wasn't just about distributing wheelchairs; it was about restoring dignity, empowering lives, and spreading love.
